Handmade Clay Flowers by Chaba's Clay Flower & Art Studio
Note - these items can be safely shipped. The clay is pliable and not rigid and therefore not prone to breakage.
Brighten any room with these beautiful clay flowers made by Chaba Conrad from Head of St Margaret’s Bay, Nova Scotia. The flowers and leaves are made from a specialty clay using a technique learned in Thailand.
Constructing the flowers and arrangements is time consuming and involves several steps. The clay is first mixed with oil paint to give the clay its base colour. The clay is then flattened and hand cut and shaped to create petal and leaf pieces using specially designed tools. After the pieces air-dry for about 24 hours, they are hand painted to match the fine detail and subtle shading of actual flowers. The final step is to assemble the various pieces into whole flowers, adding stems made of clay supported by wire. The clay is not fired; the arrangements are air-dried, and the final product is slightly pliable.
We currently offer a small selection of clay flowers online. There is a much larger selection of colours and styles available in the Gardens Shop at the Annapolis Royal Historic Gardens. Drop by!
